An immature Northern Goshawk was seen this morning by Dick Belanger, Al
Scherzer and I. It flew right at and by us from a perch by the Ponquogue
Beach parking lot. Down at the inlet we also had great views of 4 Purple
Sandpipers that were feeding along the western side of the near jetty.
Dozens of Common Eider were present inside the inlet, at its eastern mouth ,
in thin lines well into the bay and even hauled out on the inner sandbars.
There was a raft of some 50 Longtailed Duck down towards the bay bridge and
7 American Oystercatchers fed upon a bar just north of the high island west
of the bridge.Loons were sparse, Northern Gannets were not. An American
Bittern arched itself skyward on the marsh just west of the beach clubs.
