A beautiful adult Red-headed Woodpecker was actively feeding on the ground and
the various oak trees that border Greengate Park and the more familiar
Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown (closer to Rt. 347 entrance) around 9:30
this morning. Also present in the area were 8 Northern Pintails, 23
Green-winged Teal, Cooper's Hawk, several Brown Creepers, 2 Purple Finch, 4
Rusty Blackbirds, and a rather loose flock of American Goldfinch totaling 21
birds.
