I had the pleasure of viewing a Red-necked Grebe at very close range yesterday 
afternoon while birding Patchogue Lake. 

The bird favored the south end of the lake and best viewing is from East 2nd 
Street, located on the west side of the lake.

Lee Stocker just emailed me, reporting that the bird continues as of this 
afternoon.
