This afternoon I opted for checking the sod farms again, starting at
Doctors Path, Riverhead, and ending with the fields on Main Rd. (Rt.25)
Peconic. All told, I looked over 11 of them, without seeing 1
shorebird...yes, that is correct, not even a single Killdeer !

On Saturday 9/13, I was able to get 2 & 1/2 hours out in the field, birding
between 2 & 4:30 PM. I visited 4 sod fields, plus 2 (now completely)
dried-up farm ponds, without seeing any shorebirds, except for a small # of
Killdeers (<10).
I also decided to check-out the gull situation at Iron Pier
On Saturday 9/13, I was able to get 2 1/2 hours out in the field, birding
between 2 4:30 PM. I visited 4 sod fields, plus 2 (now completely)
dried-up farm ponds, without seeing any shorebirds, except for a small # of
Killdeers (10).
