river preserve. A great blue heron was seen in the southern pond.

Department recently trimmed all of the old herbaceous growth which allows
great views of the pond even from the car. Without getting out I spotted a

It was very quiet - however there were two (2) pairs of green-winged teal
duck and I was happily surprised to find and watch a Wilson's Snipe feeding
away on the south side.

most of the time was spent on the east side sitting along the bank of the
river observing birds. Also I was happy to see a Great Egret catching a
variety of prey inside the pond.

Around 7 PM I walked around the swan River preserve in east Patchogue. Small
birds were absent aside from chirping cardinals and the always present song
birds.
A bit of pond watching turned up some mallards, the resident swan (still with a
fishing hook / line attached) and great blue heron.

good amount of time sitting adjacent to the spillway that enters the river
