A really talented coworker of mine is a graphic designer for Audubon, but he
also designs his own art outside of work. This American Woodcock graphic of his
is being sold on shirts, and the proceeds from these sales are donated to the
Wild Bird Fund in NYC- "NYC's only wildlife reh
On my way home from Saratoga, I stopped at Sterling Forest at dusk to do some
herping and had two woodcock, heard both and saw one on Ironwood Rd.

Timberdoodlemania is not just confined to New York City. Around 1PM today as I
was searching (unsuccessfully) for the Northern Goshawk at the Massapequa
Preserve I surprised 3 American woodcocks just west of the Pittsburgh Avenue
lake. Also seen in the park were killdeer and an overwintering cat
I just saw an American Woodcock about 25 minutes ago on a handicapped access
ramp leading to 799 Washington Street at the northeast corner of Horatio and
Washington Streets in Manhattan's Far West Village (kitty corner from the small
"park" where the Couch's Kingbird was first seen two years ago
At least four American Woodcocks had to be rescued across midtown
Manhattan on Wednesday, March 15.

There were two displaying in Arshamomack Preserve (Chapel Lane) Greenport last
Monday dusk. Just to the left of the entrance trail.
It was their first display this year. More to follow I hope.

My wife and I recently came upon a recovering wetland along Old Post Road
in Armonk (opposite the Beehive restaurant). There's a stream and marshes
and fields where there once a bowling alley stood (only the foundations and
patches of parking lot remain) but are now NYS property.
We went there ton
There were at least 6 American Woodcocks displaying, "peenting" and flying
around in the shrub and grassy area just south of the visitor's center
parking lot at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens County. They first
appeared at 7:15 as the light was fading but could be seen peenting on the

here in Harriman.

Speaking of impending spring: on Wednesday I had a Woodcock foraging in the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden and yesterday one out at Floyd Bennett Field (also in
Brooklyn). The bird at FBF was "peenting" in the brush before hopping out onto
the edge of the tarmac and then flying off.

We were able to see 6 American Woodcocks in Brooklyn's historic Greenwood
Cemetery today. Most were in the area of the Battle Hill Monument. We
caught sight ofone walking and feeding between gravestones and another later
flew in a circle around us affording excellent views; the rest were birds we
Yesterday at 8PM we heard and saw a American Woodcock at Jamaica Bay
