The pond is open to the ocean with resulting large mudflats. Thousand of trees
swallows, hundred of terns (least, Forsters and Common), sanderlings,
semipalmated sandpipers , least sandpipers, Black bellied plovers,
semipalmated plovers, piping plovers, yellowlegs, egrets, cormorants, gulls
2 red breasted mergansers at train station. Otherwise an uneventful lengthy
walk through the park on a beautiful morning. 1 RB nuthatch, 1 Bald eagle, 1
American kestrel, 9 semipalmated and 1 least sandpiper, 1 lesser yellowlegs,
only 3 warbler species (redstart, blue wing, yellowthroat); lots
There’s a juvenile Baird’s sp in the long puddle in the parking lot in front of
Aviator sports in Floyd Bennett Field.

An American Golden Plover is mixed with a group of Black-bellied Plovers at
the Delalio Sod Farm on County Rd 51 at second break in median east of
County Rd 111. Seen at 7pm, Saturday.

Steve Biasetti and I did an ocean watch from 6;30 to 8:00 this morning,
Saturday. We had about 120 Cory's Shearwater and about 5 Great. All moving
east to west. There were also about 5 humpback whales and about 25
bottlenose dolphin which were quite close to shore. Sorry for the late post.

Species of Wood Warblers including Black-throated Green, Magnolia and
Blackburnian Warblers.
Mallard - 5 Turtle Pond
Mourning Dove - 2 or 3
This early afternoon, after losing at our Condo's weekly Horseshoe
Tournament, I decided to go birding and change my luck ! "The Golden
Trapezium" was barren, but the sod field on the s/s of Sound Ave between
Doctor's Path & Roanoke in Riverhead had shorebirds, albeit, less than on
