The neat thing is that I caught some lucky shots of the bird in rather

There will be some outstanding photos coming up from photographers with far
I stopped by the Coxsackie Boat Launch Park this afternoon and found 2
ICELAND GULLS, both immatures. There were also about 75 Herring gulls, 10
Great Black-backed Gulls, and 10 Ring-billed Gulls. As happens each evening,
at one time, all the gulls took flight and flew off to their night roost -
Please . What time??? A group of us is planning to come down from
upstate on Saturday. Any tips especially relating to time, location, or tide
would be very useful to us to maximize our chances of success - and avoid
hypothermia in the process - if possible.

at about 8 o'clock, out on the water about 100 yards north of the Bay 16th
Street crosswalk. At about 8 15, it flew eastward, inland with a group of

The first flock that I saw go by before dark had over 600 geese in it

I should like to point out that the Black Vulture has been increasing in
numbers here in the upper Hudson Valley of New York.
Over the recent decade, the numbers have gone from zero to double digits
with large roosts popping up in several locations including New Paltz
(Ulster Co.), Hudson

seen on the Hudson River at Coeymans, Albany County, this morning, June 11.

The previously reported (thanks Will Nancy) nicely marked adult LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL was still present at the Coxsackie Boat Launch this
morning (~10 AM). Also, an immature ICELAND GULL was amongst the 800 or so
mixed flock of gulls on the ice next to the parking area.

southern Albany County to southern Greene County.
Except for a small stretch near Catskill, the river was completely frozen
over. I spent an inordinate amount of time searching that one small stretch

At noon today, I found a MERLIN perched on a tall willow near the
intersection of Farm to Market and Johnny Cake Road (quaint names, eh?) in

SNOWY OWL was perched on top of the big Waterloo Premium Outlet Mall sign

The previously reported VATH was just seen again in a residential yard near
where it had been frequenting. The best bet would be to go to the 166 Harwick
Rd Rochester address an watch from the yard there.

The news from folks here is that the Neotropical Cormorant flew off at about 3
40 PM. it had not returned to the pond by nightfall. A few searched around
other likely spots with no luck.

True to form the NECO has returned to the Van Buren pond and is swimming and
diving along with a few Double-crests. It is here now.
Contrary to my earlier post and as correctly stated by Willie D'Anna, the
location is really in the Town of Pomfret, NY.

It took off at about 9 30. It has shown pattern of leaving but returning after
a while.

and staying relatively still (for a vireo).

Also if I may add, Rt. 17K is a very busy major highway. Please be careful and

The report from Montgomery is that the Caracara has not been seen at the farm
location but has been reported near the intersection of Rts 17K 208.
A caravan of birders ID headed over to there to try their luck.
