Went back to Hendrickson today,couldn't help but revisit the pfgo. It was
swimming in proximity to where it seems to like to hang out by the tennis
courts. After about 10 minutes it hopped up out of the water and fed giving
some good looks. What a great bird!! A red tailed hawk
Got a quick glimpse in my binoculars of a bird I can only explain as a
flycatcher type of bird but very yellow with a yellow belly. It leaped lower
down as I tried to get a photo and i wasnt able to get a shot. I stuck around a

Park at west end 2...walk into dunes using the "following activities prohibited
sign" by exit of lot...walk thru dunes and look for the shaggy dead tree that
is close to the road/entrance to coast guard...its there in plain site...middle
of tree height..ill try to stick around to help...-kev

coast guard parking lot and walk towards far end of boardwalk away from the

Im looking right now at 4 female common mergensers, incl.one sitting on the
ice,one redhead, one cackling goose that's kinda weird and dark with a
interesting white patch on it's head,and another more typical cackling goose.
40% of pond still all ice, this is @ grant park in Hewlett, Nassau
King Eider is by the tip of the second to last Western Jetty just as specified
by Colleen this a.m...showing well!!

Didn't see it on the SandBar by coast guard so walked East on the sand towards
the bridge and found it actively feeding just off the shore fraternizing with
the red-breasted mergansers. Good looks right now 1:45 pm

Sunday Looked up and noticed a sandhill crane flying over short Beach and
coming down low near the median trying to see if it landed... 3:26 p.m.

This bird is now believed to be a Common Goldeneye, with a uncommonly light
brown bill, due to the size of the bill. I apologize for any inconveniences!!

Strangely there are no geese or mallards here, but one ruddy duck, a gadwall or
two, 1 male ring-necked duck, and one male greater scaup to with about 10
common mergansers, at least two are males.

west puddle on the beach at 4:47pm, was a bit tough to pick up but then came
out of the taller grass in the pond and showed well. It seems 4pm is the cutoff

Hi All! Right as I was walking the trail back to leave mmsa at closing time I
saw a flock of black bellied whistling ducks land just behind and to the left
of the the osprey nest. I imagine the birds were at the golf course and
something must have spooked them and they all flew into the Marine
The Pacific Loon continues right in front of the lifeguard chair that is in
front if the main building at field 2, swimming w 2 Common Loons, it is about

Hi All! The Arctic Tern was just loafing with a few dozen common Terns and one
or two roseate terns on the western colony side. Someone from conservation just
checked a plover nest and the flock just flushed but seems to be returning. No
Wilson's phalarope or black terns present at this time!
At 5:35pm friday the 10 black bellied whistling ducks continue feeding and
right now mostly resting in the grass, they are north of the parking lot maybe
100 yards from the parking fee booths-kev

There are at least two Gull-billed Terns that are giving great looks actively
looking for food and resting in the puddles at the lido preserve passive nature
center area. I've been spoiled by great looks by them the last 3 times I've
been here, usually from around 2pm in the few hours I'll bird
Watching two Gull Billed Terns sitting together with a Roseate Tern nearby, I
lost track but there had been two Roseate that I think we're second and third
birds moments ago. All this on the west Colony puddle at Nickerson Beach.-Kev

They went from a puddle near the parking fee booths, to a spot a little west,
and then the flock picked up and whistled to the northwest corner of the grass
field...just a bit west from where the black necked stilt spot was. 10 birds,

As of 4:43 PM Tim Healy's Stilt Sandpiper is very content feeding in the west
colony puddle, the big puddle, not the little marshy one west and north of it.
The Black-bellied whistling ducks continue as well..they were in the parking
lot puddle pond when I drove in a few minutes ago before
3:59PM still present sleeping in the grass ,please take the long way around the
pond as to not disturb, once you follow trail around the bend, they are
visible on the grass, not visible from the water/pond. -kev

Walking into to the mens room at field six at hecksher I accidentally flushed a
drab male Rose-breasted Grosbeak...that's the only flushing I've done as I
never got into the bathroom as this bird is giving some great looks..it likes
the fence around the bathroom building! -Kev

Taking the walkway up to the fisherman's path not far from the main parking lot
at Caumsett State Park four Bobolinks of female type and possible hatch year

Both birds showed well, even together in the same photo frame at times, however
if your on your way now those two birds and the flock they are associated with
moved east to the volleyball courts and then north and I lost them around
3:30pm. Finding a sparrow flock of at least ten sparrows with
Immature black tern, Jones beach coast guard on the sand spit sitting with

I really rushed that last post due to the fading light and hoping some people
that were nearby would be helped by it, it doesnt help somehow I wrote 'west
end 3' accidentally...my apologizes..west end 2 is the place to look. Also many

For anyone around the 2 western kingbirds can be found by walking the median
towards the turnaround, making a left where you can see a path that looks like
car tire tracks, about 50% down that path and look east and there is a tall
bare tree with robins and the kingbirds are sitting in it.
As of 2:15 PM the golden-crowned sparrow is showing well and spoiling everyone
with great looks. It tends to hang out at the base of the feeder, sometimes
perching in the vegetation, and sometimes stays in cover for a little while,
but mostly it has been out and about! -Kev

Hi all,Just had a Vesper Sparrow not far from the coast guard station...walk
past the bathrooms on the bike path past the sand spit..(4 marbled godwits are
sleeping there) past Short Beach and take the asphalt bike road that goes north
towards the median and it is fraternizing with song
Vesper sparrow continues in the same spot as yesterday, the bike path east of
short beach has a turn that goes north about 100 yards or so after the coast
guard sand spit... when you make the turn proceed slowly and the Vesper tends
to feed on the right side of the path , if a cyclist goes by
Now there is two feeding together in spot described in last post! -Kev

A female type Common Goldeneye is with the more expected regulars in the open
water on grant pond. Most of the pond is frozen but the open part is full of

The two sub adult male and one sub adult female King Eiders continue at point
lookout. If you use the parking lot entrance on west side of lot and check the
flocks at the nearby jettys, esp the last two western jettys, they can be found
mixed in with the moderate sized Common Eider

A female King Eider, sub adult is mixed in with a flock of common eiders and
long tailed ducks near the jetty if you enter in by the memorial...3 jettys
west of the inlet. Harlequins were perched on rocks the next jetty to the east

Same spot as yesterday's female sub adult there is now a male sub adult king
eider. Park at memorial, and it's the jetty just to your left when you come out
on the beach off the wooden ramp. brown bird up top, white underneath,
