Re:[nysbirds-l] Barnacle goose in Putnam County

2023-12-31 Thread Molly Cohn
Oops - I had the wrong Putnam County RBA open on my phone and thought it
hadn’t been reported on eBird yet. The original finder is Sean Camillieri,
sorry about that!

[nysbirds-l] Barnacle goose in Putnam County

2023-12-31 Thread Molly Cohn
There’s currently a barnacle goose with a group of CANG on the side of the
road at these coordinates:
41.42277° N, 73.67882° W

It’s showing extremely well. There’s plenty of parking on the opposite side
of the street.

I’m not sure who the original finder is, but I was alerted to its presence
by John Sarles on a Connecticut birding groupme.

Happy birding,
Molly Cohn

Re: [nysbirds-l] Barnacle Goose present at St. Charles Cemetery

2017-01-22 Thread John Mora
Having seen this post we rushed to the cemetery but all geese where gone.

Located pair of common ravens in tree in the Barnacle area. Revamps called,
preened flew to a telephone pole and finally flew off towards the Southern
State.

At the private golf course next to Pinelawn we saw the Ross goose and the
immature snow goose next to each other. This was near the southern pond and
after 15 minutes these geese joined 40 Canada geese and walked over the
hillside.

Not many geese at Belmont Lake - no Barnacle.

[nysbirds-l] Barnacle Goose - Riverhead (Suffolk)

2016-12-04 Thread Derek Rogers
Just briefly picked out a single Barnacle Goose among a very large flock of
roughly 6-7000 Canada Geese. The birds were feeding in the large farm field
along the west side of CR-105, south of Northville Turnpike. Also present were
2 Cackling Geese.

Unfortunately a pick up truck drove out onto the field and kicked up the flock
before I could get a full detail.

The flock scattered in several directions but the majority appeared to head to
the SW toward Merritts Pond.

Best,
Derek Rogers

[nysbirds-l] Barnacle Goose and Bronx Redheads...

2014-01-29 Thread Andrew Baksh
The Randall's Island Barnacle Gooses continues. Observed in the creek and
on the field near the indoor tennis facilities. It was hanging out with a
mixed flock of Brandt's and Canada Geese.

In the Bronx, just off Hunters Island (near Orchard Beach), I came across a
rather impressive raft of an estimated 4000 Scaup most of which were
Greater. In the mix were two drake Redheads and 1 female Canvasback.

I spent over and hour sifting through the flock a few times but did not see
the Eurasian Wigeon that was reported with the Scaup. In fact, I did not
have any Wigeons at all in the area I was searching.

Cheers!

[nysbirds-l] Barnacle Goose, Randall's Island (correction)

2014-01-27 Thread Douglas Futuyma
In my haste, I wrote "Cackling" when, of course, I intended "Barnacle"
Goose. Thanks to the several people who quickly notified me of this
idiotic (my word, not theirs) mistake.
