Highlights: Northern Parula, Spotted Sandpiper, Great Blue Heron, & Breeding Birds (Gray Catbird, Barn Swallow, Brown-headed Cowbird & others). Canada Goose - 22 adults, 5 juveniles Gadwall - 2 in eclipse plumage Reservoir Mallard - 42 Mourning Dove - 8 Chimney Swift - 4 together over Humming Tombstone Spotted Sandpiper - low flyover Lake Herring Gull - 11 Reservoir Great Black-backed Gull - 2 Reservoir Double-crested Cormorant - 11 Reservoir Great Blue Heron - 2 flyovers Black-crowned Night-Heron - adult Willow Rock Red-tailed Hawk - 2 adults over Tupelo Field Red-bellied Woodpecker - male & female Tupelo Field Downy Woodpecker - 3 including male juvenile with male adult Warbler Rock Northern Flicker - family in Ramble Great Crested Flycatcher - pair Maintenance Field Eastern Kingbird - adult Turtle Pond (3 fledged last week), adult Warbler Rock Warbling Vireo - Gill Overlook (Karen Evans) Blue Jay - 4 Barn Swallow - 4 young in nest, at least 1 adult, 1 or 2 fledged young Reservoir White-breasted Nuthatch - adult Gill Overlook (Karen Evans) Carolina Wren - 2 Maintenance Field Wood Thrush - adult singing near Weather Station (young recently fledged)* American Robin - many Gray Catbird - young in nest Upper Lobe, 2 juvs w. half-grown tails Warbler Rock Cedar Waxwing - 3 east end of Upper Lobe Lawn Song Sparrow - singing adult north end of Reservoir Baltimore Oriole - 2 hatch-year birds at Gill Overlook Red-winged Blackbird - pair Turtle Pond Brown-headed Cowbird - juv. fed by female Northern Cardinal top of Oven (Armando) Common Grackle - 4 juveniles in Ramble Northern Parula - continues at Maintenance Field Northern Cardinal - female feeding Brown-headed Cowbird top of Oven *Wood Thrush - Karen Evans, Peter Haskel, Tom Ahlf, et al., observed young in the Wood Thrush nest on Wednesday, so the young birds fledged sometime between Wednesday and Sunday morning.
