OBS: Robert DeCandido, PhD, Deborah Allen, m.ob. on bird walk starting from the 
dock on Turtle Pond at 9am.

Highlights: Eight species of Wood Warblers. Fewer Black-capped Chickadees in 
Shakespeare Garden than earlier in the week. No early morning flight today, and 
no raptor migration observed over the park. 

Canada Goose - 5 Upper Lobe, 82 Reservoir (before walk) most flying out at 
around 7:30am
Gadwall - pair Turtle Pond, earlier a flock of 9 Reservoir 
Northern Shoveler - 8 Reservoir (before walk)
Ruddy Duck - around 120 SE and SW Reservoir (before walk)
Mourning Dove - singles & small flocks many locations
American Coot - 1 Reservoir east side (before walk)
Laughing Gull - first-cycle bird flying east from Reservoir 7:40am
Herring & Ring-billed Gulls - more than 150 at 7:30am, many flyover Herring 
Gulls on walk
Great Black-backed Gull - around 20 at 7:30am
Double-crested Cormorant - 1 Reservoir 7:30am
Red-tailed hawk - hatch-year perched Turtle Pond
Red-bellied Woodpecker - residents
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - at least 8 in the Pinetum, others elsewhere
Downy Woodpecker - residents
Northern Flicker - few
Eastern Phoebe - 3 Turtle Pond, NW Great Lawn, Maintenance Field
Blue-headed Vireo - Maintenance Field
Blue Jay
American Crow - flock of 13 over Great Lawn & Turtle Pond
Black-capped Chickadee - widely-distributed
Tufted Titmouse - at least 10
Red-breasted Nuthatch - at least 6 (Pinetum & Shakespeare Garden)
White-breasted Nuthatch - fewer than last week
Winter Wren - Turtle Pond & Gill
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 2 Maintenance Field (Sandra Critelli)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - around 30
Swainson's Thrush - Balancing Rock (Andrea Hessel)
Hermit Thrush - 3 or 4 (Shakespeare Garden, Balancing Rock, Gill)
American Robin - many
Gray Catbird - Upper Lobe
Cedar Waxwing - hatch-year bird Shakespeare Garden, others heard
Ovenbird - Mugger's Woods close to Tupelo Field
Nashville Warbler - hatch-year the Point (thanks to Gabriel Willow), adult 
Balancing Rock (photo Sandra Critelli after lunch)
Common Yellowthroat - Turtle Pond (before walk)
Northern Parula - 2 Pinetum
Blackpoll Warbler - 2 (Shakespeare Garden, Gill Overlook (Deb & Sandra after 
lunch))
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 3 (male Pinetum, male Shakespeare Garden, female 
Oven)
Pine Warbler - Pinetum
Yellow-rumped Warbler - numerous many in Siberian Elms with sapsuckers, also 
foraging on lawns
Eastern Towhee - female west side Great Lawn, Oven, others heard
Chipping Sparrow - Pinetum
Song Sparrow - several Maintenance Field
Swamp Sparrow - Laupot Bridge after lunch
White-throated Sparrow - many
Dark-eyed Junco - 2 Pinteum
Northern Cardinal - residents
Common Grackle

after the walk.
