[nysbirds-l] Dune Rd, Suffolk County

2016-08-23 Thread Eileen Schwinn
Along Dune Rd - Shinnecock Inlet to Post Ave. bridge, Quogue, this AM, between
7:30 and 9:30, nothing unexpected was seen. A few interesting birds included
two Yellow-crowned Night Heron (imm. in the side ditches), Clapper Rail, and
Lesser Yellowlegs. Birds in migration included two Merlin, a female Baltimore
Oriole, young Robins, and a growing number of Tree Swallows, with a few Barn
Swallows mixed in. Relatively few biting insects were encountered!

[nysbirds-l] Dune Rd (Suffolk County) Iceland Gull

2011-12-30 Thread Richard Kaskan
When I arrived at the bay side parking area at Tiana Beach along Dune
Road (Suffolk Co) from the east this morning at about 8am I found a
first-cycle Iceland Gull in the bay close to shore. I took some
not-so-great photos, six of which I cropped and posted here:
https://picasaweb.google.com/106800176987581359310/Tiana?authkey=Gv1sRgCNPu1OSrqYO6_QE#5691963764438206258.
After I took the photos I returned the car to get my telescope to
study the bird some more, but it had disappeared, and I did not find
it again.

I'm not Mr. Larid, so I'm interested in any corrections of this id.

Later I saw a group of 21 Bonaparte's Gulls again on the bay side of
the road near Triton Ln.
