Small hawk migration flight this morning at hook mountain in Nyack. From 8am to
noon had 25 broadwings, including a nice little kettle of 20 right over head at
about 11:30. A couple of sharpshins, an imm red shoulder and peregrine, 2 bald
eagles, an osprey and a handful of local red tails

This is not New York State, but these birds were heading towards NY. Mimi
Hue and I drove to different spots in New Jersey.
The most productive area was Sandy Hook where the hawk migration was taking

After getting very little done up at the hawk watch this spring, the birds
finally arrived today. First broadwing of the season came at 930, with a pretty
consistent flight til nearly 430. I was up to take pictures, not to count, and
I didn't bring binoculars, so I spent very little time scourin
hook mountain had an excellent flight today. with almost dead calm conditions
nearly all day, there were 166 raptors counted, including over 100 sharpshins,
43 red shouldered hawks and an immature golden eagle. the golden was seen at
just before noon, circling up with an immature bald eagle for
first broadwing at hook mountain in nyack came at 10:20 this morning. small
groups of 5 or 6 coming after that until i left at noon. tomorrow could be a
good day there with clear and cool conditions.
