Seeing these reports of Purple Gallinule prompted me to search eBird to see if the one I saw MANY years ago was there. It wasn’t, so I added it.
This was a bird that Barbara Spencer (who else?) found on her way to work the morning of June 13, 1980 at Scudders Pond in Sea Cliff (Nassau County). It was a very easy bird to see right from the road and I was able to find it the next day within minutes of my mother driving me to the location. It was seen by many others, photographed, and documented in the Fall 1980 issue of The Kingbird. Anybody else remember this bird??
