[nysbirds-l] Turkey Hunting season opens May 1st
Just a reminder - the spring turkey hunting season opens Friday, May 1st and runs through the 31st in all upstate counties north of the Bronx-Westchester County boundary. Hunters are allowed one "bearded" turkey per day; two per season. Hunting is permitted from one-half hour before sunrise to noon. Just so you are aware, turkey hunting is permitted in some state parks and other NGO conservation areas. The hunter may be well camouflaged. You might not see one sitting on a stand. Here's some advice - check with park regulations to see if hunting is permitted; while in the field wear brightly colored clothes and do not try out your turkey call imitations . -- Richard Guthrie New Baltimore The Greene County - year round -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] Turkey hunting season opens May 1st
Heres the annual heads-up: The Spring turkey hunting season opens Tuesday, May 1st and runs through May 31st. Hunting is permitted with the appropriate license from ½ hour before sunrise through noon each day. Turkey hunters tend to be heavily camouflaged and will sit for long periods of time trying to remain concealed. So if they are good at what they do, you are not likely to see them in the woods as you are walking the trails in search of birds. It would be a good idea to stay to the trails and perhaps wear some article of bright clothing.
