Oh well, the e-address still gets truncated when displayed by Topica. I assume the reply feature works. Avery Burdett wrote: That's [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you read this on Topica's web page. I have also seen preliminary plans that close many of the best trails to MTBs. Is the OBC Board of Directors going to have any representation against the National Capital Crusaders? Of course but we can't act on rumours. So we'll wait to see the evidence. Currently, we use the roads as legal users. We get a permit for the Grand Prix so I don't see that changing. MTB trail use is another issue and I wouldn't be surprised to see changes, but other organizations will deal with that. - For list help, please send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Club Office: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (613) 230-1064 Website: [EMAIL PROTECTED]http://www.cyberus.ca/~obcweb Newsletter: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - ==^ This email was sent to: archive@jab.org EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?aVxiDo.a2i8p1 Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^

As the largest cycling club in the region it would be a shame to just stand by and let smaller mountain bike specific clubs take on the NCC alone. Does the OBC have a road specific mandate? No but there are some complex issues related to trail use and we would need to have some expertise and research done to take a position. Alan Anderson has been our unofficial guide on MTB issues and we leave it to him and others to suggest what positions to take but so far we haven't taken any. That doesn't mean we won't but NCMBA is probably better qualified. As you probably know, it has been our practice not to automatically rubber stamp some other organization's advocacy. -Original Message- From: Avery Burdett [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2002 4:45 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [obc] gatineau park Derek J Medland wrote: I heard that there is a possibility of the NCC closing closing the Park down to any form of racing, road or mtn or tri. RE: [obc] gatineau park
NCMBA certainly means well, but they have neither the commitment, membership base, prestige nor history that the OBC can take pride in to effect change at the levels of bureaucracy it takes to deal with Mr Beaudry and friends. Though I have been doubted, I can verify trail access is indeed threatened, I have seen the two year proposals. More than two of the most popular 'bike only' trails are being turned into main and shared access trails. Shared access, as those of you that mountainbike as well as roadbike will agree, means 5+ feet wide, poor drainage patterns, and absolutely terrible construction materials, more suited for driveways than cycling paths. Certainly if there was ever a time that the OBC needs to take a stand, it is to represent cyclists' best interests in the Gatineau Park. I will do what I can to share information on this topic as it comes available. I will include any interested parties in an event, petition, and media coverage to bring this to light, into the public eye so we can have a singular unified voice from the cycling community as a whole. Sincerely Derek.
