energy, miners rise
----------------------------------------------------------------- European
shares rise in early trade, recouping some of the losses from the previous
session as commodity-related stocks bounce back along with oil and metal
prices. At 0714 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 <.FTEU3> index of top European shares
is up 0.5 percent at 1,165.30 points. Rio Tinto <RIO.L> adds 3.4 percent,
Xstrata <XTA.L> gains 3.7 percent and BP <BP.L> rises 1.4 percent. Tech shares
get a boost from Hewlett-Packard's <HPQ.N> results that beat estimates

---------------------------------------------------------- Shares in Ferrovial
rise 2.82 percent to 34.0 euros after the UK Competition Commission said its
BAA unit may have to sell two of its three London airports. "In principal this
is bad news for Ferrovial... the only positive reading that can be given is
that Ferrovial could take advantage of the asset sale to further reduce debt
and operate BAA with fewer obstacles," a trader said. For more double click on

20Aug2008-Wirecard shares surge after improved outlook
--------------------------------------------------------------- Shares in
WireCard <WDIG.DE> surge 9.2 percent to 7.46 euros, topping gainers in
Germany's technology index <.TECDAX>, as the
payment systems provider raises its full-year guidance after reporting final
second-quarter results. "We did not reckon with an increase of the guidance,"
says Thorsten Reigber, analyst at DZ Bank in a note to clients. "So a positive
surprise here." The analyst confirms his strong buy rating for the share and
says that WireCard's valuation is still moderate compared to its peers. For

06:54GMT 20Aug2008-Telekom Austria seen opening lower as Q2 disappoints
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Shares
in Telekom Austria <TELA.VI> are expected to open lower after the company's
second quarter earnings miss estimates as a further decline of its domestic
business is masked by its emerging markets business and one-off factors weigh
down earnings, analysts say. "The numbers were light of expectations but better
Int'l mobile masks a
huge deterioration in domestic mobile," Deutsche Bank analyst David Wright
says in a note to clients. "Earnings visibility is still lacking. This counters
(Telekom Austria's) attractive valuation." "The market is pretty trigger-happy
at the moment if there's missed numbers," says one analyst who declined to be
identified. "But i don't see this as a big shock like we saw before, because it
is largely seasonal and exceptional factors and I think the guidance is still
achievable." For a story on the results, double click on [ID:nLK25989] Reuters
