Does hipster build stock illumos gate? I haven't tried omnios with dan's
fixed yet but if we have a solid platform that is actually maintained that can
build stock illumos then we can just stop worrying about OI. They can fix if or
when they are motivated to do so.

I think you need take a look and update manifests:
developer-dtrace
service-network-dns-mdns
Try to do from pkg:
PKGFMT_OUTPUT=³v1² pkgfmt manifests/developer-dtrace
PKGFMT_OUTPUT=³v1² pkgfmt manifests/service-network-dns-mdns
Also - maybe we can use additional environment variable
Did you clobber your proto area before this build? If you do, that
noise might go away.
I looked at Richard P.'s changes and they look reasonable to me.
If they help your work, I say go ahead and include them.
