I can reproduce the problem with other pdfs as well. I am attaching Ruby
PickAxe book, try clicking on http://ruby-doc.org url that is there in second

Works for me on stock Kubuntu 9.10 packages. What is your default desktop,
gnome or kde? Also are you opening the pdf file from okular itself or in a tab
embedded in

Yes. But the page that okular was showing while updating the dvi didn't contain
any eps at all.
