I have not had this problem in at least a year, although I still regularly call
okular from within emacs as described in the original bug report.

When I run okular via valgrind then the whole kde window manager crashes rather
than just okular, so I can't get any more information. It may be that my system
is messed up, since I have done several system

Can you please try running it under valgrind as i suggested? May give us some
extra info, and also installing qtcore debug info would be nice too
