India Cricket Update: When we last met, prior to the great Winter Olympics buildup,India had fallen into the doldrums while on their Tour of South Africa. If you recall, India had hosted Sri Lanka inDecember, with a full three Tests, three One Day International, and three 20Twentymatches, the last on Christmas Day. In the midst of that were the Virat Kohlinuptials, which were celebrated on a Villa in Tuscany, the grand party being onBoxing Day, with the team parting for South Africa still with the hangoversfrom the party, some probably still partying as they boarded the plane. In any case their Tour of South Africa beganbadly, putting at risk their number one rating in the world rankings, andindeed, South Africa did command the first two Test matches convincingly, butfinally fell in the third test match.
India put paid any rumors that they were exhausted from playand Kohli's parties, by besting South Africa in five of the six, practicallysweeping the series. In the three T20Imatches, which concluded the series last week, India took two of three. In the 6th ODI, Virat Kohli celebrated his35th ODI hundred. It is this time that South Africa receives no rest. Australia, refreshed with some down timeafter their December trouncing of England in the Ashes series, arrived in SouthAfrica, to begin their 1st Test, this past Thursday, which continues thisweekend at Kingsmead, Durban. Australialeads handily after three days of play. Meanwhile, England continues their tour of New Zealand. In the USA, in NCAA College Basketball, conferences arewrapping up their seasons this weekend, with some awarding ConferenceChampionships, most playing their regular season finale. The Wildcats of Kentucky will visit the FloridaGators this morning, playing what will be a hard fought games at the ExactechArena. John Calipari's Wildcats look to extend their four-game winning streakin their SEC finale against Mike White's Gators. Kentucky's 66-64 loss toFlorida on Jan. 20 snapped a 30-game SEC home winning streak. The Xavier Musketeers will travel from their own friendlyconfines in Cincinatti, to travel to Chicago, meeting DePaul at the WintrustArena in a Big East matchup. Marin Maricand Tre'Darius McCallum head the Blue Demons seniors playing theirregular-season home finale against Chris Mack's Musketeers, who took the teams'first meeting 77-72. The Crimson Tide ofAlabama will visit Texas A&M forplay at the Reed Arena. Junior center Tyler Davis and the Aggies look to avengetheir worst loss of the season in a rematch against Alabama. Freshman guardJohn Petty scored 18 points for the Crimson Tide in a 79-57 drubbing earlier inthe season. The Blue Jays of Creighton University travel from Omaha toMilwaukee to take on Marquette at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
