It should be okay - the build will only use the PMIx functions for which it was 
designed, ignoring the rest. I confess I haven’t tried it myself recently, but 
we certainly tried to make it work, so please report any issues you hit.

[OMPI packagers] openmpi and pmix compatibility

Are there any restrictions on what versions of pmix to use with 
particular versions of openmpi?  In particular - is it okay to have a 
"newer" pmix (3.0.2) with openmpi 3.1.X or even openmpi 2.1.X?
