Hi all, Please excuse any cross postings. MassLNC is considering an enhancement to add an "active" date (or maybe an "available" or "on-shelf" date) to copies in Evergreen. Our idea is that the active date would identify the date that the library first checks in the item, indicating that it is at the library and available to users. In addition, we would like to give libraries a configuration option so that the clock for age-based holds protection doesn't start ticking until the item has been checked into the library. In our testing, we've found that current behavior is for the clock to start ticking when the copy is entered into the database, which, for many libraries, may be the date that that item was ordered. In cases where libraries are adding pre-publication on-order items to the database, a fair amount of time can pass before the item actually arrives at the library and is available to fill holds. We also see other benefits to adding an "active" date for items. For example, it might be useful in generating reports of new materials that have arrived at the library. Before going any further with this idea, I wanted to first send this message to the list to see if anybody is already working on similar functionality so that we don't duplicate efforts. Do others think this functionality would be useful? Thanks!
