[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Fine Setting in Evergreen

2012-12-14 Thread Jayaraj JR
Dear Sir,

1. Our library collects One Rupee as fine for the first seven days after
due date and 10 Rupees per day after the first seven days. How can we set
this configuration in recurring fine rules in evergreen.

2. We are now using the Evergreen version 2.2.2. When we make a search ,
the default results page open in the MARC view of the record. This is not
useful for us. How can we go back to the normal settings.

Thanking You

Hi all,

If I may just ask for some thoughts on this process, I would appreciate it!

We're in the process of exporting our records to Backstage for cleanup and

Stop right there.

Have you seen this:
http://git.mvlcstaff.org/?p=jason/backstage.git;a=summary ?

It is explicitly written to do what needs to be done to export bib
records for Backstage. It will also import the results for you when
properly configured.

I've been following the instructions in the documentation for export. Our
first batch went ok, however, our second batch throws an error similar to
this:

/home/opensrf/Evergreen-ILS-2.1.2/Open-ILS/src/support-scripts# cat
/home/tonyb/Our_Export_Dec_13 | ./marc_export -i -c
/openils/conf/opensrf_core.xml -x /openils/conf/fm_IDL.xml -f XML
--timeout 5 Our_library_exported_files.xml
Retrieving Org Units ... OK
Retrieving Shelving locations ... OK
Argument ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8 ?\n isn't numeric in
int at ./marc_export line 241, line 1.

! Failed trying to read record 0
Argument !--\n isn't numeric in int at ./marc_export line 241, line 2.

At this point, our first file and this file were the same (bib id's),
so I know nothing has changed there. So for my next stab at things, I
tried to export in a bit different format:

cat /home/tonyb/Our_library_Export_Dec_13 | ./marc_export -all
--encoding UTF-8 Our_library.mrc

This puts things in regular UTF-8 instead of XML and currently this
seems to work with no errorshowever, this seems to want to export
the entire DB at once instead of reading the Our_library files.

Anybody have any ideas about the errors with the XML? Is that only an
XML thing and am I getting the equivalent by just exporting to mrc
instead?

This may seem basic, but just wanted to ask folks and make sure I'm on
the right track herethanks for your thoughts as you have a moment
or two.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Acquisitions development - we need your help

2012-12-14 Thread Kathy Lussier

Hello Evergreen community!

During the last Evergreen conference, many in the community identified
acquisitions as an area that needed a lot of attention.

Soon after the conference, SC LENDS, SITKA, Bibliomation and MassLNC
stepped up to the plate to jointly fund acquisitions improvements that
are now available in 2.3. Through this funding and the speedy work of
Equinox developers, Evergreen acquisitions staff can now receive
electronic invoices via EDI, place enriched EDI orders, and benefit from
general workflow improvements during the invoicing process.

However, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in the area
of acquisitions. As many of you know, screen loading times are still
very slow for PO's and other interfaces that have too many line items.
There are also many other areas where the number of mouse clicks can be
reduced and general workflow improved.

The development partners who funded the 2.3 acquisitions work have
identified improved screen loading times and general workflow
improvements as the next area requiring the most attention in
acquisitions. Over the past month, acquisitions specialists at SITKA and
MassLNC have been working with Equinox to generate mock-ups that would
support improved workflows. By doing these workflow improvements at the
same time that the developers are looking at speed improvements, we can
ensure that the addition of new elements on a screen doesn't lead to a
further slowdown in the screen loading times. We expect to be done with
making final decisions on the development that needs to be done over the
next week.

Some of the development partners who funded the 2.3 improvements are
willing to commit funds to this next round of development, but we need
the help of others in the community to get a fully-robust acquisitions
system into Evergreen. I'm hoping other library systems that are
currently using acquisitions or would like to use acquisitions someday
will consider contributing to this project. If we can continue this
work, it will not only make life easier for the acquisitions librarians
out there, but will make Evergreen, as a whole, a more appealing option
for other library systems and consortia that are looking for a new ILS.

If you are interested in contributing funds to improve screen rendering
time and workflow improvements in acquisitions, send me an e-mail and
I'll bring you up to speed with the development plans.

Thank you,
Kathy

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Inventory module

2012-12-14 Thread Buzzy Nielsen

Hi everyone,

Our consortium (Sage Library System) potentially has access to a bit of
money that we could use to further develop Evergreen. In thinking of
projects that would benefit all of our members and other Evergreen
libraries, we were thinking about an inventory module. Specifically,
we're looking for a module that would allow for member libraries to
conduct thorough inventories and produce reports of missing items, etc.,
without requiring intervention of a systems administrator. I hope that
makes sense!

Is there already an effort underway to develop such a module? If so,
whom would I contact to learn more about what's happening and how we
could contribute to the efforts?

Thanks for your help with this!

Cheers!

2012-12-14 Thread Thomas Berezansky
I seem to recall this coming up before, and I seem to recall handing
out information I had come up with, but I don't recall anyone actually
doing anything about it.

I have some basic thoughts on how to accomplish some pieces with
minimal issues, and the rest that I am aware of could then be easily
accomplished with reports. But I haven't had time (or pressing need)
to develop any of it.
