[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Reminder: Evergreen for Academics - IRC Meeting, Today Aug 14 3:00 EST

2014-08-14 Thread Kelly Drake
The first meeting of Evergreen for Academics will be held Today! Thursday,
August 14, at 3:00 in the #evergreen IRC channel.

Agenda:

a. Introductions

b. Review the Evergreen for Academics Areas of Interest wiki page (
http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen_for_academics). Goal:
put the areas into a matrix of 1) who’s interested, 2) difficulty of each
area – easy to hard, and 3) current state of any existing development or
projects for these areas.

c. Plan for next steps – meeting schedule, etc.

If you would like information on how to use IRC please review the quick
start guide -
http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=community:irc-quick-start. To
view a presentation on IRC for EG, go to: goo.gl/w3zml2. This presentation
was created by Yamil Suarez and explains how you can just use a standard
web browser
to use IRC. Please feel free to contact Yamil (ysua...@berklee.edu) before
the meeting (or after) if you have questions about how to connect to IRC.

It's important that everyone who wants to attend, can.

Meetbot will also be 'taking' minutes and a log of the session will be
available for those not able to attend. Kathy Lussier will be managing the
meetbot session.

 Hi all,

A few weeks ago we posted an email to gauge interesting in starting an
Evergreen for Academics list and the response has been great!

Next week we'd like to start meeting (via IRC) and begin moving the
project forward. Our agenda for the meeting is as follows:

If you have any additional items to add to the Areas of Interest, please
either let me know, and I'll add them, or post them to the page.

If you are interested and able to attend, please indicate your best
available dates and times (all times are Eastern but hopefully also
accommodate West Coast folks) using the following doodle link:

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Regarding auth-bib linking on combined name/title headings (1xx main entry + 240 field)

2014-08-14 Thread Srey Seng
Hello,

Question: Has any libraries out there performed bib-auth linking (with
Backstage as a vendor ) and encounter the following scenario in their data? Any
insight into how you approach this situation?

According to Backstage, their system will combine the 1XX and 240 into a
temporary unified heading for matching against LC. In short, we can have
situations where we have a Bib that generated an authority record after
processing, similar to the example bib and auth snippet listed below.

This bib…
=100 0\$aMartial.
=240 10$aEpigrammata.$lEnglish Latin.$kSelections
Generates this auth…
=100 0\$aMartial.$tEpigrammata.$kSelections.$lEnglish Latin

From my understanding of authority control and bib-auth linking in Evergreen,
only a one MARC tag to one MARC tag (and one subfield to one subfield) type of
linking/control is supported. So, running this bib/auth pair through bib-auth
linking does not link these two together. I found this situation to be one
reason why some authority records returned from backstage does not link to any
bib when looking at some stats after linking.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Regarding auth-bib linking on combined name/title headings (1xx main entry + 240 field)

2014-08-14 Thread Mike Rylander
This isn't an answer to the question, but for some background, I personally
heard about this for the first time at the 2014 Evergreen conference.
There's no code supporting 1-auth-field/multi-bib-fields today.

As a general question to the catalogers out there, is the 1XX/240 combo the
only instance of this that you're aware of, or is there a general pattern
of combining the control of multiple bib fields into a single authority
field? That might inform the direction taken with any code to address this.

TIA,

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] [RM 2.7] Evergreen 2.7 Beta1 - Summary

2014-08-14 Thread Ben Shum
Hello folks,

So I just finished putting up the 2.7.0-beta1 files to the Evergreen
website's download page. Here are some direct links as well for different
2.7 beta1 preview files so far:

http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/Evergreen-ILS-2.7.0-beta1.tar.gz
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/Evergreen-ILS-2.7.0-beta1.tar.gz.md5
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-client-2.7.0-beta1_i686.tar.bz2
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-client-2.7.0-beta1_i686.tar.bz2.md5
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-client-2.7.0-beta1_x86_64.tar.bz2
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-client-2.7.0-beta1_x86_64.tar.bz2.md5
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-setup-2.7.0-beta1.exe
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/evergreen-setup-2.7.0-beta1.exe.md5
http://evergreen-ils.org/downloads/previews/ChangeLog-2.6-2.7.0-beta1

A full list of different launchpad targets for the 2.7.0-beta1 build can be
found here: https://launchpad.net/evergreen/+milestone/2.7.0-beta1

Additionally, the first draft of the 2.7 release notes listing new features
can be found here (a new, final version will be posted as beta testing and
release candidate work wraps up):
http://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/release/RELEASE_NOTES_2_7.html

As of this 2.7.0-beta1 release, there will be no new features added to
master as the community shifts gears to focus on testing and stabilizing
the features that have already been added. This is also an opportunity for
developers/reviewers to work on bug fixes and for DIG members to work on
documentation.

NOTE: One special exception was granted to provide additional testing
opportunities for the web-based staff client circulation module preview.
This new feature depends on a brand new version of OpenSRF (the upcoming
2.4 version) and we allotted additional time for its testing before merge.
The web client preview is the only new feature that will be part of the
next pending milestone, which is the 2.7.0-beta2 currently scheduled for
next Thursday August 21, 2014.

I think that we are well on track towards an on-time release next month,
September. I'd like to thank everyone who's participated in the ongoing
testing, documentation, and other work completed thus far.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Cheers,

-- Ben
