[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Online credit card processing

2013-01-29 Thread Miller, Jeremy
Howdy and hello!

We're looking into starting accepting credit/debit card payments online through
the OPAC, and of course need to choose a payment processor.

Between the available options in Evergreen, and those listed by our bank, the
choices are narrowed down to:

  Authorize.net

  Paypal Payflow Pro

We'd like to find out the experiences and opinions of other Evergreen libraries
that currently use one of these services.

Would anybody like to volunteer to talk to us about them?

Thanks!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Inventory

2011-03-01 Thread Jeremy Buhler
Hi Georgette,

Several Sitka libraries have done inventory by scanning books on the shelves
into a laptop w/ the Evergreen client, then running reports to identify
missing items. For details see past discussion on this list at

It depends on how you define inventory. I have done a list of what
should be on the shelves for a library (shelving location, title, call
number and barcode) and they manually verified that what was on the shelf
matched the list, but we have not done a scan in every barcode to see what
 is on the shelves inventory

I am on a fact finding mission, so if anyone can tell me, have you taken
an inventory since you migrated to Evergreen, how did you do it, were there
problems, and are there reports to finalize it all and make sure everything
 scanned etc.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Thank you

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Handling lost books which have been paid for

2011-01-28 Thread jeremy
Hi Aaron,

I'm not sure how your overdue mailers are generated but in overdue
reports Sitka libraries distinguish between 'lost' and 'lost and paid
for' items using the xact_finish field in the action.circulation table.
For items that are lost but still have outstanding bills, xact_finish is
NULL. When fines are paid the xact_finish timestamp is added.

Hope that helps,
Jeremy

We are wondering what other libraries are doing to notify patrons of lost
books without bothering the patrons who have paid for their lost books.
Also, how do you distinguish a book that has been lost and paid for from a
 book that is just lost?

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Item Checkout Notes

2010-09-18 Thread jeremy
Hi James,

It sounds like the Alert Message in the copy record will meet your
needs. Sitka documentation on using this field for copy alerts is at

Jeremy

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Inventory Option in Evergreen

2010-02-25 Thread jeremy
Hi Catherine,

One of the Sitka libraries undertook an inventory project using a laptop
and wireless connection to check in all the books on the shelves. Check
in (and other circ transactions) sets the last edited date in the copy
record. If a copy was already available there's no harm done by
checking in again, apart from status reverting to 'reshelving' for a
short period.

When finished they generated a report of items whose last edit date
preceded the start of scanning, thus identifying items that hadn't been
'seen' by EG during the inventory period. Lost, claimed returned, and
other incorrectly marked items were identified and corrected during the
scan.

Other Sitka libraries have expressed interest in inventory projects,
we'd also love to hear of other approaches or refinements.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] OPAC Visible Question

2010-02-05 Thread jeremy
Hi Amy,
As Cynthia and Elaine mentioned, bib records for OPAC invisible items
appear in the staff client search results. On the item details page,
however, the specific copy info (barcode, call number, etc) does not
display if you are in OPAC view. Switching to the 'Holdings
maintenance' view (under 'Actions for this Record') should reveal the
missing holdings records.

Hope that helps,
Jeremy

 Hi—

We’re going over the Evergreen cataloging client today and we
have a question for the group.

In holdings maintenance, there is a field called OPAC VISIBLE
and if it is turned off, then the holding disappears both from
the staff client and the public access catalog. We were
hoping it would only disappear in the public access catalog so
that staff could still see it.

What would be the purpose of this OPAC VISIBLE setting?

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Adding custom fields to OPAC display

2008-11-28 Thread Jeremy Buhler
We are configuring Evergreen 1.2.3.1 and would like the OPAC to show
additional information in the default view for bib records. In addition to
showing the Abstract, for example, we would like to create a new line for
local notes with data derived from the MARC record.

I understand this will involve changes to /xml/rdetail/rdetail_summary.xml
and have successfully created new rows in the table, but I'm not sure how to
populate the rows with data from the MARC record. Can anyone point me in
the right direction?

Thanks,
