If an item is added as a pre-catalogued item and then circulated, what happens
to the record of that circulation (for reporting purposes) if the item is
deleted upon return rather than turned into a real item?

Kate, the circulation record still exists, but how it gets used (or
not) depends on how you construct your reports.

I think Jason's right. Our pre-cat circs weren't being counted until
someone pointed out that I had been filtering on IsDeleted equals no.
(It's necessary for so many of our reports that it's become a habit.)
Once I removed that filter, we were fine.

Also, once (if) you attach a pre-cat to a real bib, the circ follows
the pre-cat into catalog-ed-ness, and sticks with the real item
forever.
