Overall Job Purpose: The Unix/Linux System Administrator is to assist in
the operation and tuning of the Unix and Linux servers and related
components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the
supported business applications environment. This individual utilizes
company policies and procedures to ensure the systems are provisioned and
maintained to meet company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory
requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

   - Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for
   related file systems, storage, and applications. Review and deploy Unix and
   Linux system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best
   practices. Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve
   hardware and software problems on all Unix and Linux systems to improve
   efficiency, reliability, and performance in a timely manner. Monitor, test,
   and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as
   needed for compliance purposes.
   - Coordinate with network, business application, and data administrator
   functions to configure, install, and implement Unix and Linux systems and
   infrastructure that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate
   objectives. Support application development teams throughout project
   lifecycles.
   - Participate in and support capacity planning and development of
   long-term strategic goals for Unix and Linux systems, storage, and software
   in conjunction with end users and management to meet business requirements.
   Participate in disaster recovery planning exercises.

Required Education & Experience:

   - Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, engineering, or business
   or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
   - 3 years of experience as system administrator for Unix or Linux in an
   enterprise environment with emphasis in one or more of the following:
   - Shell scripting
   - File System setup and maintenance
   - Kernel configuration and tuning
   - Machine recovery from faults
   - System patching
   - Capacity planning
   - Storage management
   - Excellent written and oral communication skills
   - Excellent documentation and organizational skills
   - Ability to work in a high pressure environment
   - Ability to work outside of normal work hours to address emergencies
   and perform scheduled off-hour activities
   - Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting ability
   - Knowledge of Change Control Methodologies

Preferred Education & Experience:

   - Knowledge and experience of one or more of the following:
   - HP/UX
   - EMC and other SANS
   - Networking experience including FC zoning
   - Experience with Virtual machines (ESX/KVM)
   - Java/JBoss
   - Groovy
   - Oracle Developer
   - Oracle Database
   - Oracle Application Server
   - PL/SQL
   - PowerBuilder
   - Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
   - Experience with windows server integration
   - Experience with active Directory/LDAP integration
   - Experience with Delivery Ware Document Processing Software
   - Tripwire experience
   - HP Data Protector experience
