UI Designer Location - Emeryville, CA Duration - 3 - 6+ Months Rate - Keep It Low Start - Immediate Sr. User Experience Designer Reporting to the Director, User Experience (Product Management, User Experience and Creative), the Sr. User Experience Designer must be a fast learner who understands the importance of collaboration and can distill highly complex issues into easy-to-understand design requirements. The position requires expert design skills as they apply to information architecture, user workflow, usability, and website/web app interaction. You must possess a thorough understanding of interaction design principles and best practices, with a strong understanding of how visual and interaction design work together to create a user experience. You must have strong analytical skills and be able to understand and apply both qualitative and quantitative data. You will be well-versed in user research practices and understand how they are best used within a fast-paced environment. You must be highly organized with significant experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively under pressure while balancing speed and quality. Ideal candidates will possess strong collaboration and influencing skills, excellent grammatical skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Employ user-centered design practices to create world-class interactive web experiences * Define, develop, and document all front-end design requirements for projects impacting both domestic and international brands * Develop detailed wireframes, flowcharts, mockups, and other product deliverables to effectively communicate designs and product requirements * Serve as the business lead for front-end product decisions * Work closely with engineering and QA during the development process * Write easy-to-read and comprehensive documentation * Conduct user research, such as usability studies, paper prototype studies, ethnographic field studies, and surveys * Design and analyze AB tests * Understand how to appropriately apply both qualitative and quantitative research findings in design and business problem-solving * Take ownership of project ROI and success metrics * Work with cross-functional teams (customer service, marketing, merchandising, engineering, QA, etc.) to find balanced solutions to complex user, business and technical challenges * Develop expert-level knowledge of competitive and complementary products/experiences and bring new ideas to the team * Work seamlessly with the Creative design department to develop and maintain site branding and visual design REQUIREMENTS: * 6+ years experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, user interface designer, or similar role * 2+ years experience in web-based e-Commerce user experiences * Experience conducting qualitative user research. Experience in more methodologies beyond usability studies a plus. * Outstanding communication (written and verbal), presentation, and interpersonal skills * Results-driven, able to initiate and lead projects * The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in a dynamic environment * Outstanding attention to detail * Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver * Bachelor's degree or higher in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or related field.
