Hi Berthold,

Thanks for the report!

I'll note that we now have 'srpm' and 'rpm' Makefile targets as of 1.8.10,
so you may not need to be copying/modifying the spec file in order to build
rpms.

I expect that someone who has an rpm-based system will try to take a look
at the warnings from rpmbuild.

I've used the sources and a spec from 1.8.10 (only the version numbers 
modified) to build rpms for fedora 38.


I got some minor warnings from rpmbuild regarding absolute symbolic 
links and double listed files.


The kernel module (for 6.7.6-100.fc38.x86_64) was build with dkms. 
Installation of the rpms worked as expected. I've got openafs running 
for our cell. I've seen no problems until now.


Next step will be an upgrade of the system to fedora 39.

This prerelease brings performance and reliablity improvements, improved
diagnostics, support for the latest Linux mainline kernel (currently 6.7),
macOS releases up to 14 ("Sonoma"), allows the client utilities to run on
machines with only server configuration files, updates the bundled
CellServDB to the latest version from grand.central.org, as well as a
number of bug fixes and minor new features.
