Our experience with the AutoDock mailing list with members-only posting is pretty positive. When a user registers to the mailing list, his/her first post needs to be approved once, then future posts get straight to the mailing list. Spam messages can be either ignored or rejected. I don't

May I suggest that we change openbabel-dev to only allow posting by members? That is, that posts by non-members are rejected (with a message) without review. This would reduce the admin burden on spam filtering. There is a list of existing non-members with posting rights on the mailman interface,
