The default man.conf is named wrong and doesn't work. It references gtbl, while
groff installs tbl and other things. This man.conf is imported from OE classic
and runtime tested on angstrom.
Before:
root@beaglebone:~# man man
sh: /usr/bin/gtbl: No such file or directory
sh: line 0: echo: write
