Hi
that' s very interesting project, and I've seen some demo on YouTube very
promising,
But I do not understand well if it is a better VNC using advanced 2D rendering
. Or it can be used also as a multiple virtual desktop solution.
I mean I need a kvm machine for every client , or can be used
We have about 50 SunRays throughout our group, relying on the Smart Cards
to move/lock the session (we're a Laboratory, and have people moving
station all the time)
with this news, we'll have to think long term about replacing them with
other thin-clients, but I cannot find anything equivalent

Any suggestions would be good, we don't even have to stick to Solaris, but
I would prefer in the extreme not Windows. Anyone have experience with

I suggest you keep track of the SunRay-Users mailing list for a while;

Hi
I'm also interested in the possibility to find a good alternative to Sunray, so
far I found interesting this article:

that found an alternative in thinlinc from http://www.cendio.com/
I' m looking for a valid alternative that permits the use

Hello,
What about SPICE? It is an opensource protocol which works with KVM.
KVM is already part of Illumos. so might it be interesting to port
SPICE/Ovirt as well?
Then we would have a display protocol with similar capabilities as the
ALP protocol.
Clients can than be made from smal ARM based
Sometimes you think: why didn't anyone else think of this.
Found someone who is already working on it: ;-)

Maybe Off Topic , but a great bad news.
Oracle decides to discontinue the developing of the DVI infrastructure :

Are there any viable alternatives? Using illumos based OS ?

How sad. Well, I guess I will be replacing all my 2s with 3s as I am
sure the ebay market for them will completely collapse. SRSS '5' (4.2?)
works so well I haven't bothered patching/upgrading/even worrying about
it for 2+ years now (yeah, and oracle killed that with their jackass
support
I heard about this earlier today. I'm not sure what this will do to our
plans to replace our old Sun Ray 1 and 1Gs with the 3 Plus. Currently
we're running off Solaris 10 on SPARC. I have not tried it yet with OI or
Solaris 11.
Daniel, were there any difficulties getting the SRSS 5 software
Not at all. I was surprised how easy it was and having the 'new'
features in OI is great. The adjuncts used to be pretty disappointed
with the look and feel of sol10 but when I updated them to OI they loved
it (well, they stopped complaining). I even had Kiosks working fine but
it messed up
