Indeed, I can confirm that, youtube/dailymotion etc do no longer
work (since 151a8 hipster), probably none of any video sites.
That's  indeed a major showstopper, since that used to work
smoothly with other none-youtube sites. We should not break
important things on desktop that would repell users from using
it (as flash is currently on *peak* usage on nearly every web page,
despite Adobe's announcement to stop any work on it).

My experience is that it's definitely far past its peak, and declining
greatly, as web sites retool so they can work for the millions of users
with iOS and now Android phones/tablets, since iOS never had Flash, and
Adobe pulled Flash from Android App Stores last year.

you have a working copy of VLC on a current OpenIndiana?

Did it come from one of the common repositories?  Was there an update 
that I missed?

There is a firefox add-on called shumway which can play some Flash stuff
by converting it to HTML5 (or something like that).  It works for me on

You can also join the HTML 5 youtube trial (sets a cookie),
but not all videos are shown with WebM, they fallback to
flash if avalable:
