Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Fwd: TEST-pkg available: Hipster's future VirtualBox-5.1.6-SunOS-amd64-r110634.pkg
Hi, thanks for testing the completely obsolete OUTDATED packages. As I reported to list already on September 22nd it is clear that you got these errors. Shortly after I sent follow up mails and explained how I got these issues fixed. Sadly I didn't have time for unapid work since then (because Shot-USA-style Capitalism is attempting to terrorize me by means of unpaiable bills!!!) , but stay calm and happy aka tuned, as soon as I somehow CAN i shall gladly upload the other stuff as mentioned time and again from my TODO list. Unfortunately everybody expects expects expects, but how the contributors like Alp, Aurelien, Ken (or myself) etc etc etc pay their bills - nobody ever asks that question. Here my old Sept22nd email: [OpenIndiana-discuss] USB still doesn't work as root user, plus CURRENT SRC DIFFS SNAPSHOT __/__ Re: Running Martin's Virtualbox pkg, failing to compile keymap while using vncserver Мартин Бохниг opensxce at mail.ru Thu Sep 22 19:28:32 UTC 2016 https://openindiana.org/pipermail/openindiana-discuss/2016-September/019582.html I return as soon as I can, count on my word. Hi Aurélien, man! That is outstanding. Yes, it was this typical empty probe issue indeed. On my agenda it was the last thing to look into, so DTrace support might not have made it into the initial IPS release without your help. That's just cool, and this then also means we can definitely ship the DTrace extension pack which is included in the OSE edition src and which does get built without issues, good to know, I add it back into the manifest. Hi Pedrag, why so complicated with downloading Oracle's full package and then pkgtrans? ;) In fact it is even easier, but as long as I'm not 100.000% sure about licensing (redistributable or not) I cannot do that. After we checked the Oracle licenses, we will see. I have fixed that "problem": * Downloading http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.1.6/VirtualBox-5.1.6-110634-SunOS.tar.gz * Running command: "pkgtrans VirtualBox-5.1.6-SunOS-amd64-r110634.pkg ." (got pkg file from tar above) * pfexec cp SUNWvbox/root/opt/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso /opt/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso (change was immediately visible to booted guest) Once more: thanks for package :-) With best regards. Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Fwd: TEST-pkg available: Hipster's future VirtualBox-5.1.6-SunOS-amd64-r110634.pkg
BTW, here my official confirmation (perhaps for the wiki then? I will also put this into README for the src release to my personal github for everybody to review and fetch) : The trick provided by Christian Meier to get Vbox5 running as root (without the QT problem in Vbox_5_ if run as root) *WORKS* and *VOILA*, suddenly usb devices (of the real host) do get listed for attachment :-) No network cable or anything is needed, just locally: A) ssh -X localhost and then B) su (without -) C) /opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox And bingo! USB devices are suddenly all there and also non-USB CD/DVD passthrough works as root! This is required to install copy-protected optical media to MS-Win guests, such as in my case the Russian Language learning software requiring not only a vendor's genuine serial number but also running authentication checks against the physical (!!!) DVD itself. Big special thanks to longterm OpenSXCE community member/supporter and now Hipster co-migrant Christian Meier https://openindiana.org/pipermail/openindiana-discuss/2016-September/019544.html !!! I didn't realize what it was when I saw it before. Well done, a little blocky on the font choice, but still looks great. Мартин, The test I've done so far are on Hipster/illumos-cb3c687 on a Dell T5400. The ISO from the windows version works fine as well as the extension pack installs fine. I'll see later on with a different hardware (more recent) and USB Webcam + sound. Don't forget to put "Rest/Have a beer" in you task list. Best regards. Hi, Install went on fine. I just needed to add the SMAP setting in the /etc/system file Nice splash and "About" screen. One thing to notice is that the Guest addition ISO is only offering Solaris version and the ISO itself is rather small compared to the VBox Windows version. I'll do some test using USB passthrough later on.
