W hat I didn't mention is that with this website famo.us I initially started with WebView in JavaFX 2.2.5 and it renders the animations but very, very slowly and is not really usable. However, with JavaFX 8 b99 it's much, much worse. Now it doesn't even get to render the first animation as it

I am investigating the feasibility of developing a JavaFX 8 control based on Canvas. I have chosen Canvas as the base class as this control is of a very dynamic nature and would not be easy to implement with a retained mode style ancestor (at least as far as I can tell). So is this feasible?

What we do know is that Oracle are working on something and that RoboVM is already out there. We also know that RoboVM has serious limitations such as being based on the Android class library, not supporting JDK 8 or OpenJDK or invokedynamic etc. so is not really a viable solution at this stage.
