I'm running into an issue from the assemble.pl script where it fails
on doc - is there a way to skip it with arts to assemble?

I don't think the doc generation is optional. That said, it shouldn't
fail...

Yeah, you annotate the class with @EventListener and give it a unique
name, and then add an @Event
