There is also a pkcs11 soft token library (no hardware) that comes with
heimdal.

Yes -- I forgot about the Heimdal PKCS#11 soft token library.
It's not as configurable or as complete as I would like but if you only
want to test successful PKI operations using your own certificates and
private keys then it should suffice.
