I found this in the meeting log from today's dev meeting:

/etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf in the [mysqld] section.

mysql_native_password
It seemed to work for me so now I'm running Mysql 8 on my Robust server and
all looks good so far.
