Hi FrankH,
Sun's Solaris does't support all software in sfw.
And I haven't known to be maintained the software in sfw on opensolaris.
But I'm relieved to hear that the software in sfw is maintained.

Is it just shutdown so slow? Or better - what's slow?
It is overall a bit languidly. Startup time isn't significant
slower but was so in recent versions before b91 as if it was
waiting for some timeouts. Startup has now been accelareted.
But especially the shutdown last extremely long. And the
Current packaging systems do not meet the unique
needs of OpenSolaris.
I would be careful to formulate such statements.
For example, the sgi IRIX's inst(1M) software management subsystem provides all
the functionality that pkg(1M) is currently scrambling to provide, plus more,

NO,NO,NO Please don't !
rpm is bad idea on any planet.
THis is not Linux.
From a migrating Linux user point of view I second that. Asides the

in itself is rather slow
hi,
I just tried to install a x4500 via jumpstart with sol-nv-91. Everything looks
fine untill near the end of the pkg installation I get: Solaris 11 software
installation partially failed ... pkginfo -p on the command line reveals that
'SUNWj6rt' is the candidate in question that partially

I would like to know where i can get full technical information about
Opensolaris 2008.05
I mean ,i want to know stuffs like,
How the file system is built up?
What sort of compression is used?
(I know its using 7za ,but is it the only method being used or a trade between
gzip / LZMA)
The difference is that b91 sets the hinting to Full, and previous versions
had it at Slight, hence the visual different you're seeing, all you have to
do is go to System-Appearence-Fonts-Advanced and select [*] Slight

Hi,
little bit off-topic:
you can sometimes get into situation, where your ABE is clone of
some formerly used BE. To be able to destroy the BE from which
your currently booted BE (ABE) was snapshotted/cloned use `zfs
promote ABE`.

Through my experience after install all three NICs have been detected and
dladm show-link
reported which interface was up ( obviously with cable plugged in).
However, ifconfig -a showed IP-address 0.0.0.0 for each one of Ethernet
interfaces .
Manual intervention was required to obtain IP via
