I had the chance today to pose this question to Intel's "Lead Strategist" in the Digital Enterprise Group. His response was something like this: The belief has been that the 8S and above market is in decline, so the general trend has been to focus on 4s and below. However, 8S and above has actually grown over the past few years at a rate somewhat below that of the general server market, but it's still growing. >2. are there techinchal restrictions? On the technical side, larger SMP systems do require some glue, like a node controller.
