[osol-discuss] MORE: Townhall meeting
Sorry again for the large cross posting. Another great idea, which surfaced during the last OGB meeting, was to have a report out from all the communities on what they've been working on, in lightning style, with 5 minutes assigned to each. This will be a fun and informative way to make sure everyone gets up to speed on what's happening within the community. So please sign up for your lightning talk here: http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Indiana#OpenSolaris_Community_Town_Hall_Meeting and I look forward to hearing from as many of you as possible. Tim Tim Cramer wrote: All, Its time for another Town Hall meeting with myself and Dan Roberts. We're planning this one for Tuesday, Sept 16th, from 3-5pm. All slides will be posted and the session will be recorded so you can enjoy at your leisure if the time doesn't work out for you. Agenda/Details will be forthcoming, certainly we'll talk about plans for the upcoming 2008.11 release. If there's any topics you want covered, please send me a note and we'll work it in. [osol-discuss] The OpenSolaris 200811 Release Party?!?
Hello, I was wondering if there is going to be a 'formal' release party for the OpenSolaris 200811 official release. Something that shows off the latest OpenSolaris technologies while providing a bit of entertainment, food, and the usual whizbang of special effects and speaker presentations. Just tossing a bone out there for all those user groups... Ken Mays ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

No matter what I do I can't get nge0 RUNNING and that means I'm without network :/ That means that the underlying driver is reporting link down. It's consistent with the log messages you're seeing. This is really a big problem for me right now, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try putting in an old RTL8139 and see if I can get running on that for now. Using some replacement interface is exactly what I was going to recommend -- along with filing a bug. (I would have recommended a trusty old Intel PPRO [e1000g] or 3COM [elxl] card, but that RTL8139 [rtls] should work as well.) I've put in another card and that's working fine, but how can I configure that card to be the default after reboot? I can manually use ifconfig to reconfigure but that is annoying as the faulty onboard NIC hangs when I try to unplumb it etc. If I can reconfigure sxce to use the other nic i should be alright. What does this command say? % svcs physical If it shows that physical:nwam is 'online', then the system should automatically switch. (And if it doesn't then you need to edit /etc/nwam/llp to give preference to the right interface.) If it shows that physical:default is 'online', then just do this: rm -f /etc/hostname.nge0 /etc/dhcp.nge0 That will prevent that interface from being plumbed at boot. Similarly, creating those files will cause an interface to be plumbed at boot. [osol-discuss] VirtualBox on snv_96, Server 2003 guest slow and unstable
I installed VBox on my test system (PowerEdge 2600), then installed Server 2003 Enterprise. I'm having a ton of issues with the entire system rebooting, Server 2003 simply losing network or when it isn't crashing or is still on the network, ping times are erratic. 50ms, 1000ms, 1ms and so on. Is this par for the course with VBox on this build or have a hardware issue? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

2.0.0. I haven't tried the older version at all. I'm testing this out in my spare time, which hasn't been much. Thanks for helping confirm that I don't simply have a hardware issue though. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

Re: [osol-discuss] iSCSI, snapshots, cloning and NTFS
Hi Search blogs.sun.com. There was a post about exactly the same thing. In short, it works alright like you need but with a caveat - on server side you wont have any problems, but you might have the same problems faced by san based snapshots. ntfs wont be aware that a snapshot is about to be taken, so you might need to chkdsk the cloned/rolled back snapshot... as metadata may not be in sync on disk at time of snapshot. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
