I built the elfextract utility from usr/src/tools/elfextract and copied it over
to /opt/onbld/bin/i386 and I can proceed further. But why was it left out from
the SUNWonbld package??

NIGHTLY_OPTIONS shell variable

When we run the command bldenv -d ./opensolaris to build a particular folder,
we see that -g option is taken by cc _gcc compiler. But when we do elfdump of
the executable/relocatable object files, we don't see, the debug information.
We have added __GNUC="" in opensolaris.sh.

Thanks to all for the ideas thus far but still no success. I forgot to mention
in the original post that the
video adapter is an EVGA AGP NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT / 256mb and while the hard
disk is SATA, the CD/DVD RW is via EIDE. It's made by NEC. The nomenclature
