Nobody from the dev@ team expressed interest, but I received messages
from users asking about the process. I've now put the patch file

Is this something we could count on? We could save quite a bit of CPU
time and memory by not having to copy data into temporary buffers.

feature would be nice, but then I'd also like those buffers to shrink
to their original size after a certain amount of time. This should
definitely be doable, and I wouldn't mind sponsoring the development.
