I upgraded my Apache and OpenSSL bits in /usr/local to 2.4.4 and 1.0.1e and
then
ran in test mode for about a week. All seems well enough.

I then made a big tarball and moved the entire pile from /usr/local over to
another
Solaris server. In fact, a zone on the same server.

It starts up and looks great and reports :

Apache/2.4.4 (Unix) OpenSSL/1.0.1e PHP/5.4.12

lovely .. all looks great until I attempt to submit a simple form to a dirt
simple
binary on that server. I get plenty of these in the ssl_error_log :

[Wed Mar 06 00:01:37.096441 2013] [ssl:info] [pid 3991:tid 26] (70007)The
timeout specified has expired: [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:59272] AH01991: SSL
input filter read failed.

I am seeing these error messages endlessly with nearly every page I click on
the website. Now this could very well be a fault in Apache however the error
points to SSL.

I also see plenty of these :

[Wed Mar 06 00:01:21.818279 2013] [ssl:info] [pid 3991:tid 23] [client
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:59274] AH01998: Connection closed to child 84 with abortive
shutdown (server dev.mydomainname.com:443)

the first evidence I see that this is an SSL issue is that I only get an
intermittent SSL_SESSION_KEY in the environment variables via the cgi session.

Has anyone seen anything like this or am I on a fishing expedition ?

Dennis
