doing something that outrageous, but I've hacked away at

Is virtualization turned on in the BIOS?
I think nova show ID will show an error message if the instance fails to boot.

Is there any chance that nova-compute gets confuse by seeing
that simple. Make sure you use the same hardware
settings as Openstack for the nic and disk and configure DHCP.
It certainly might be that simple for a single instance, but I had
trouble reusing that instance without using sysprep and generalize.
