[Openstack] [ceilometer] Release status 2012-10-05

2012-10-05 Thread Graham Binns
Hi all,

Here's a better-late-than-never release status update for Ceilometer 0.9. We're
now a week away from release.

Release in numbers
--

 Bugs in progress: 5
 Fixes committed: 39
 Triaged bugs: 15
 Confirmed bugs: 21
 New bugs: 1

These numbers were generated using a launchpadlib API script (attached). We
haven't set up a milestone for the 0.9 release; I suggest that we do and will
take care of it today if no-one objects.

The full list of bugs by status is attached for completeness.

Status of roadmap
-

According to http://wiki.openstack.org/EfficientMetering/RoadMap, there's one
bug still in progress that should be targeted for Folsom.0:

  1021775: Assignee: jdanjou; Listen Quantum notifications

Julien, what's the situation with this? I know we're technically in feature
freeze but we've got a week left until release and if we can get this committed
and QA'd in time, that would be lovely.

QA status
-

I've no information about the QA status of any of the above bugs. Is this
recorded anywhere? If not, I'd suggest that we record it as a tag on the bug,
thus (liberally stolen from the Launchpad project):

 - Not QA'd yet: qa-needstesting
 - QA'd; all good: qa-good
 - QA'd; bad: qa-bad (can be updated to
   qa-needstesting or -good once problems are fixed)

Objections, comments?

Further questions
-

Are there any bugs not listed on the roadmap that are essential for the 0.9
release?

[Openstack] [folsom] Swift-backed glance fails x-glance-api-copy-from

2012-10-05 Thread Koert van der Veer
We've set up a glance server, backed by a swift cluster. Regular uploads
with the cli work fine. However, when I try to upload an image via
Horizon, the upload fails. The log states: TypeError: object of type
'CooperativeReader' has no len(). Is this a bug, or is it a
configuration error on our side?

[Openstack] Is it possible to have several floating IPs per VM?

2012-10-05 Thread Heinonen, Johanna (NSN - FI/Espoo)
Hi,

I was reading Quantum admin guide (folsom release). There was use case
per-tenant routers with private networks. In this example all floating
IPs were from the same subnet (30.0.0.0/22).

I was wondering whether it is possible to have several floating IP
subnets and could one VM have floating IP from all of those? (If I have
an application that must be reachable from internet via two different
interfaces with two different IP addresses, can I do it with Quantum?)

Best regards,
Johanna

Re: [Openstack] Just a newbie getting some error messages

2012-10-05 Thread Daniel Oliveira
My glance-api-paste.ini already had the credentials when I posted the
problem. Also, my python-glance package is Essex, just like the other
openstack packages. After giving *glance -d index* as input, I noticed
something that's pretty much obvious: The error comes from the response to
the attempt at authenticating the user. I'm gonna double-check the
credentials in the config files, then gonna report here.

  section.

 It looked to me that there were some config file changes in folsom.

 glance index works fine for me and I have in glance-api-paste.ini

 [filter:authtoken]
 paste.filter_factory = keystone.middleware.auth_token:filter_factory
 delay_auth_decision = true
 admin_tenant_name = service
 admin_user = glance
 admin_password = servicepass

 and in glance-api.conf there is no [filter:authtoken]. However there is
 [keystone_authtoken], but it's unchanged

 [keystone_authtoken]
 auth_host = 127.0.0.1
 auth_port = 35357
 auth_protocol = http
 admin_tenant_name = %SERVICE_TENANT_NAME%
 admin_user = %SERVICE_USER%
 admin_password = %SERVICE_PASSWORD%

 Another possiblity for the 500 error might be that the
 python-glanceclient package is essex, not folsom. I had a 500 error with
 nova that was due to the python-novaclient package being essex, while
 nova packages were folsom.

  When you have fresh install you will usually have something like this
  in glance-api.conf

  [filter:authtoken]
  auth_host = 127.0.0.1
  auth_port = 35357
  auth_protocol = http
  admin_tenant_name = %SERVICE_TENANT_NAME%
  admin_user = %SERVICE_USER%
  admin_password = %SERVICE_PASSWORD%

  and something similar inside glance-api-paste.ini

  So if you have these lines with %SERVICE_USER%, %SERVICE_PASSWORD%, %
  SERVICE_TENANT_NAME%, you need to replace them all with real user
  credentials that have been configured in Keystone.

  Here you can see sample config files with the sections configured:

 Hey all,

 we're pretty happy about our new OpenStack Essex installation atop of
 Ubuntu 12.04 (hypervisor and guests).
 We use KVM (tenant is in a VLAN) as virtualization technology, having
 about 15 compute nodes, and a
 central nova-network node to act as the gateway (yet to be fully HA'd,
 however). On that gateway we're having
 a PPTP VPN so we can log in on any host or guest though this VPN.

 Our problem however is, that from time to time (I think it's daily and
 even multiple times per day)
 we're encountering kind of networking freezes.

 I first noticed it as my SSH session froze for a few seconds from my
 desktop - VPN (nova-network node) - KVM guest.
 I quickly checked others, and they hang, too.
 I checked a hypervisor, which didn't hang, so it is not a general
 networking issue (like PPTP or SSH or alike).

 Now, it feels like there is some problem with networking from and/or to
 KVM guests and I absolutely have no clue
 on how to trace this down. It really feels like a bug, but that's really
 out of my scope, and that's why I'm seeking for advice here,
 since we just can't stay in this situation :-)

 It is confirmed that we're having this from desktop - VPN - KVM and from
 physical node (in data center) to KVM.
 However, I do not yet know whether all KVMs are affected at once (which
 would indicate that the issue MAY be caused
 by the central nova-network node) or whether it is just hypervisor based
 (so it may be due to some hypervisor's state)
 or just plain random across all 15 compute nodes we have.

 I now think that this issue may indeed be KVM networking related

 I'll be happy about any hints and proposals you can provide me in order to
 track this
 issue down.

 Please tell me about any further information you need.

 Many thanks in advance,
 Christian Parpart.

Not right now. With Quantum, a router can only uplink to a single
external network, and you can have at most one floating IP per
external network (otherwise we could not unambiguously apply the
policy of SNAT-ing VM initiated connections to the floating IP). In
Grizzly, we're planning on making router uplinks more sophisticated,
which will include not only the ability to uplink to multiple networks
with floating IPs, but also uplink to other types of connectivity,
such as an external VPN.

I'll update the admin guide to make this clear.

I think it's true. Maybe you will have to setup some external dns if you
want resolution between hosts.

Hello,

I have asked similar question about floating IPs before, but the Quantum
docs are now updated with section about provider networks.

Can this(multiple IP from same public net) be done if using provider
networks? As I understand from the docs then they map directly to VMs
without fixed ip + nat in the middle. And the user would see real IP
asigned to interface inside VM?

Re: [Openstack] Is it possible to have several floating IPs per VM?

2012-10-05 Thread Salvatore Orlando
Hi Janis,

If your provider network maps directly to a publicly accessible network
then you should be able to assign IPs to VMs from a public range without
using Floating IPs and NAT.
With Quantum, you just specify a physical network (e.g.: eth0) and a
segmentation id (e.g.: vlan id 999) for creating this mapping; ensuring it
actually results in VM instances directly connected to a public network is
beyond the scope of Quantum.

Salvatore

 Tracking OpenStack adoption / Discussion at Summit
 http://markmail.org/message/5gplkacmj5ydz2f3

One of the objectives of the OpenStack Foundation is to Make OpenStack
the ubiquitous cloud operating system. In order to reach that objective
the Foundation needs to understand more about the usage of the OpenStack
software. OpenStack distributions are requested to participate in this
conversation at the OpenStack Design Summit
