local_settings is marked as config file and thus, won't be overwritten
by a newer version. You should find a
/etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.rpmnew

[Openstack] Can't access external network when starting cloud-init

2012-12-17 Thread 이창만
Hello, list.

I've used precise-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img.
And I've launched instance with keypair.
Ping is good but ssh can't access. As below log, I think due to cloud-init is
failed.

What's the problem?

Re: [Openstack] It is stuck when attach the volume to the vm.

2012-12-17 Thread Lei Zhang
Hi Alberto,

I have fix this issue already. The root cause is that the controller(where
the cinder service located) block the 8776 port and the node can not access
the cinder service. After enable the port on the IPtables, it works.

thanks you.

Re: [Openstack] Need help in deploying Nova on Vmware ESXi server

2012-12-17 Thread Ritesh Nanda
Hemanth ,

This would be option you would be specifying in /etc/nova/dnsmasq.conf
 dhcp-option=6,dns-server
Then just kill the dnsmasq process and restart the nova-network service ,
even sometimes , you need to restart the vms, on just login into those vms
and run dhclient -v .

[Openstack] Wiki content imported into MediaWiki - please check

2012-12-17 Thread Ryan Lane
I've just finished importing the content from the MoinMoin wiki into the
MediaWiki instance. Please check the content:

https://wiki-staging.openstack.org/wiki/Main_Page

We're using a self-signed certificate for now. We are ordering a proper
certificate, but eve that cert will still appear invalid until we've
switched to the correct URL.

Also note that the migration script doesn't map from MoinMoin to MediaWiki
perfectly and we'll need to clean up some of the content manually. We'll
need to create some templates for missing features too (like columned
layout).

We're going to leave the wiki up for a couple days in this state. If the
content is mostly agreeable and we decide to press forward, I'll migrate
the data again and we'll replace MoinMoin.

Not so, if you are using KVM then block migration is also an option, and it
seems to be documented in the trunk docs now too. See:
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-compute/admin/content/configuring-migrations.html

The note about compatible XenServer hypervisors might be a little confusing
- it does not mean block migration only works with specific versions of
Xen, it means for it to work with Xen your Xen must support "Storage
XenMotion".

Xin,

You may need to use send_arp_for_ha=true to send a gratuitous ARP if you're
using multi-host networking.

Re: [Openstack] Live migration problem in OpenStack ESSEX

2012-12-17 Thread Hanyu Xiao

hi:

If you want to use live migration, you need a shared storage, for your
environment, NFS make be the best choice, simple and enough, keep the
instances data stored in the space, that means, instance data should
have the same absolute path between the migration machines, the start
and destination machine must have nfs mounted.

Second, you need some modifications to libvirt conf:

- vim /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf

-- #listen_tls = 0
++  listen_tls = 0

-- #listen_tcp = 1
++  listen_tcp = 1

++  auth_tcp = "none"

 *
   vim /etc/init/libvirt-bin.conf

-- env libvirtd_opts="-d"
++  env libvirtd_opts="-d -l"

 *
   vim /etc/default/libvirt-bin

-- libvirtd_opts=" -d"
++  libvirtd_opts=" -d -l"

then you must restart libvirt, ensure:

# stop libvirt-bin && start libvirt-bin

# ps -ef | grep libvirt
root 1145 1 0 Nov27 ? 00:00:03 /usr/sbin/libvirtd -d -l

That's all for live migration, good luck.

By the way, if you have problems with live migration, you can try nova block
migration, that doesn't need
NFS configuration. type "nova help live-migration" for details.

Thanks.

I haven't modified any configuration in the libvirt. Can I get to know

Live migration need some pre-configuration and some modifications to
libvirt/nfs configuration.

Hi, JuanFra. This usually occurs if the auth info is invalid in the authtoken

watch glance-api and keystone log .

seems ok!
Even, I got manually a token for admin user and I issued:

curl -i -X GET -H 'X-Auth-Token: MY_TOKEN' -H 'Content-Type: application/json'
-H 'User-Agent: python-glanceclient'

I'm using Folsom release on Centos 6.3.

Did anyone get the same error?

order to use the WebUI.

Re: [Openstack] Horizon - OfflineGenerationError

2012-12-17 Thread andi abes
I've hit a similar issue when I updated from essex to folsom.
That advice to check the migration guide is wise ;).

Specifically for me, the local_settings.py file in folsom is considerably
different that it was in Essex. I'm not sure how rpm behaves when it needs
to overwrite a file.
You might want to check how /etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py
looks in a clean install, and compare it to your updated one.

2012-12-17 Thread JuanFra Rodriguez Cardoso
Hi Andrew:

I got this error by accessing web dashboard, i.e. I introduce correctly
user/password and then I get a "Internal error server" in my screen
(related to traceback from my previous post).

I'm planning to use another previous version (2012.2 or 2012.1.3). Now, I'm
using 2012.2.1.

I guess this error could be related to nova daemon. It's not running. Is it
mandatory to have running nova daemons so that dashboard works fine?

Thanks!
JuanFra

Right, you only need HA for swift-proxy where a simple load balancer suffices.

Good articles. The one thing they don't cover is Swift, which mostly does not
need to be covered
since the Swift service is designed to be highly available even if the
individual servers are not.

[Openstack] Openstack High Availability

2012-12-17 Thread Samuel Winchenbach
Hi All,

I am following the high availability guide provided by openstack as seen
here: http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-ha/content/ch-intro.html

I currently have mysql and rabbitmq setup with pacemaker and corosync.
Everything seems to be working fine.

I am now adding in the openstack services. I have keystone configured and
it is using haproxy for load balancing/redundancy and keepalived for the
virtual IP. haproxy is set configured to bind to non-local address and is
running on all HA nodes.

Is this a good way to make the openstack services such as glance, swift,
nova and keystone HA?

Is it preferable to have keepalived start haproxy on the node that it
assigns the virtual IP to, or is my setup with the non-local binding ok?

Is this (
http://docs.openstack.org/folsom/openstack-network/admin/content/ha_pacemaker.html)
the preferred to make the networking (quantum) HA?

and one last question:

What is a good method to detect a compute node failure and automatically
restart the virutal machines it was running on another node?

Thank you so much, and sorry to bombard you with questions!

[Openstack] floating ip takes a long time to be accessible

2012-12-17 Thread Xin Zhao

Hello,

I allocate 2 public ips to instances, the first one becomes accessible
almost immediately, but the second one
always take a long time to be pingable. It doesn't matter which specific
IP is assigned first or second, it's always
the second one that is slow to be reachable, although the corresponding
iptable rules are all set on the controller

node almost immediately. Has anyone seen similar behavior?

I am using essex (2012.1) on RHEL6.

Thanks,
Xin

There is nothing Ubuntu-specific in this. And nothing bzr-specific
either. Fedora uses the same process with success. I agree we can
improve the tooling so that it's a bit more flexible to various use
cases, but don't make it a question of supporting only Ubuntu vs. the
rest of the world. It's been a long time since we only supported Ubuntu.

[Openstack] Project : OpenStack on AWS

2012-12-17 Thread Pierre FREUND
Hi all,

I would like to introduce a project I started few days ago.

The goal is to quickly build OpenStack environment with many servers,
network and storage on Amazon Web Services. It will only use templates for
Cloudformation/Heat. It can be interesting if you have to test something on
a powerful multi-node OpenStack platform in a short time.

The first proof of concept is done for swift. You can already create a
swift cluster with keystone, swift proxy and some nodes. You can choose the
number of zones and the amount of storage in template's parameters.
If you want to test, just open Cloudformation and launch the template on
Github. You'll have an example command in the output of your stack.

Templates are available on Github : https://github.com/Capashen/OSonAWS
Bugs are reported on Launchpad : https://bugs.launchpad.net/osonaws
(osonaws is for OpenStack on AWS)

And don't look at the code in the template, it's ugly I know, there is
still lot of work to do;)
I plan to do it for nova/cinder/quantum/etc, so if you are interested in
participating, don't hesitate to contact me, or report bugs via launchpad.

See ya !

[Openstack] Glance invalid credentials

2012-12-17 Thread JuanFra Rodriguez Cardoso
Hi again!

Do not take into account my previous post where I'm getting an error from
glance credentials.
I found which was the problem. It was my own fault.
I was using YAML for populating Keystone and I made a mistake by replacing
with sed command.

Sorry. All is well!

Thanks!

[Openstack] Glance invalid credentials

2012-12-17 Thread JuanFra Rodriguez Cardoso
Hi guys:

I'm getting the following error when I try to index my glance repository
from glanceclient:

# glance index
Request returned failure status.
Invalid OpenStack Identity credentials.

I've checked the env variables, keystone_db tables, config files and
everything seems ok!
Even, I got manually a token for admin user and I issued:

curl -i -X GET -H 'X-Auth-Token: MY_TOKEN' -H 'Content-Type:
application/json' -H 'User-Agent: python-glanceclient'
http://127.0.0.1:9292/v1/images/detail?limit=20

I'm using Folsom release on Centos 6.3.
- Glance version: openstack-glance-2012.2-3.el6.noarch
- Keystone version: openstack-keystone-2012.2-5.el6.noarch

Did anyone get the same error?

Thanks!
JuanFra.

2012-12-17 Thread Alberto Molina Coballes
Hi Lei,

I was facing a similar issue with nova-volume on essex, so I'm not
sure if this can be useful to you ...

Where are you looking for errors? I found volume attach errors at
nova-compute.log of node where instance is running

I hope this help you

Re: [Openstack] Live migration problem in OpenStack ESSEX

2012-12-17 Thread Narayanan, Krishnaprasad
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin with multi compute node environment
running on KVM / libvirt. The nova command that I use is "nova live-migrate
instanceID hostID" and via API, I am passing the same information in the
request body.

I haven't modified any configuration in the libvirt. Can I get to know the
necessary configuration details in order to solve the problem?

Can you show the details of your OS, software environment and your commands
doing live migration?

Live migration need some pre-configuration and some modifications to
libvirt/nfs configuration.

Thanks.

[Openstack] It is stuck when attach the volume to the vm.

2012-12-17 Thread Lei Zhang
Hi all,

I have set up multi-host openstack env. It works well, except for cinder.

When I create new volume, it is successful. But when attach it to one VM,
it stuck and I can not found any error in the log file. Who can give me
some advise or help about how to address this issue.

Here is the current env (multi_host=True):
1 comtroller with service: nova-api, nova-scheduler, cinder-scheduler,
cinder-volume, tgtd
2 compute-node with: nova-compute, cinder-volume, open-iscsi, nova-network

[Openstack] Quantum + Tunnel VM can't get IP address

2012-12-17 Thread Lingfeng Xiong

Hi all,

Problem Description:
When a VM is launched, it cannot get a IP address. If I configure a IP
address by myself, it still cannot ping to virtual net gateway. Also,
the metadata server(169.254.169.254) is unreachable.
What the strange is, in network node, I can see dnsmasq is offering IP
address in syslog. But it seems the VM cannot receive it.

Operating System: Ubuntu 12.10
Guide I followed:
https://github.com/mseknibilel/OpenStack-Folsom-Install-guide/blob/GRE/2NICs/OpenStack_Folsom_Install_Guide_WebVersion.rst
Three nodes deployment: A controller node, a quantum node and a compute
note.

Quantum runs with openvswitch plugin and GRE tunnel enabled.

In compute node, the configuration files are uploaded here:
nova-compute.conf:
http://pastebin.com/9Dk2jSMx
nova.conf:
http://pastebin.com/HR6KaDwJ

The message when VM booting:
Initializing random number generator... done.

In network node, I can see dnsmasq is offering DHCP info to the VM:

I have no idea why the VM cannot get that DHCPOFFER and why I configure
it's network manually it still cannot access gateway or other hosts...
If more information is required, please let me know, and I will add it
as soon as possible

Any hints are appreciated.

[Openstack] bug of quantum-server

2012-12-17 Thread Liu Wenmao
I fail to restart the quantum-server recently without any error log output.

root@controller:~# service quantum-server restart
stop: Unknown instance:
quantum-server start/running, process 3763
root@controller:~# service quantum-server restart
stop: Unknown instance:
quantum-server start/running, process 4231

I trace to the code below finally:

# remove from table unallocated vlans for any unconfigured physical
# networks
for allocs in allocations.itervalues():
for alloc in allocs:
if not alloc.allocated:
LOG.debug("removing vlan %s on physical network %s"
  " from pool" %
  (alloc.vlan_id, *physical_network*))
session.delete(alloc)

the local vairable *physical_network* should be *alloc.physical_network*

I suggest to add some error output to the logger

root@controller:~# quantum-server --config-file /etc/quantum/quantum.conf
--log-file /var/log/quantum/server.log --config-file
