I checked with one of the tripleo-ui developers. They are using redux thunks to execute the API calls and they pointed me to this part of the code. https://github.com/openstack/tripleo-ui/blob/master/src/js/services/KeystoneApiService.js Hopefully that is useful - it looks like the custom code required is fairly small.
